How to Dress for 60 Degree Weather?

by Shunzhi Nie 08 Nov 2024

The weather is very changeable in the middle of fall: the warmth is over, but the cold weather that characterizes its end has not yet arrived. When dressing for plus weather, we often feel the dissonance between wanting to look stylish and not freezing. We have a long and sincere admiration for people who know how to dress for the weather.

For many people, this is one of the most difficult periods for dressing up - it's already hot in a coat, but we still can't do without outerwear. If we are a little out of step with the weather, we are either freezing in the wind or dying of heat. In early October the temperature is usually around 50- 60 degrees and it is much easier to create a stylish image for this weather than it may seem at first glance.

How to create an image that combines coziness and elegance, comfort and fashion? This is one of the difficulties that many people face. Often, you only need a few basic things to achieve this. However, with the right approach, you can create a successful and memorable image that will not only emphasize your style but also protect you from unpleasant chilly feelings. In this blog, we will consider the basic principles of selecting stylish and comfortable clothes for cool weather, when the temperature fluctuates around 60 degrees. Here are some ready-made ideas of stylish fall outfits for all occasions that you can wear right now.

Weather Conditions at 60-Degree

In the fall, a temperature of 60 degree may seem quite warm after the colder days of autumn. However, in reality, 15 degrees is no longer summer and you need to dress accordingly. Firstly, it is important to take into account that at +15°C the humidity is usually quite high and there may be short rains. Therefore, clothes should be made of dense, non-blowing fabrics, so as not to get wet.

Secondly, don't be fooled by the apparent warmth - at 60 degree the air feels cool, especially if the wind is blowing. Wind gusts can reduce temperature comfort by several degrees.

Thirdly, morning and evening temperatures are often lower than daytime temperatures. For example, it may be +10°C in the morning, +15°C in the afternoon, and then +10°C again in the evening. Therefore, clothing should be layered.

These Outfit Formulas for 60-Degree Weather Have You Covered for the Season

If you, too, are constantly suffering because you are dressed too lightly or too warm, welcome to our club. For some time we blamed it on the fall, because it's an unstable season, baking in the morning and blowing in the evening - you can't prepare for it. But no, you can get ready if you master a master class on layering.

Let's say right away: no, it means that for half of October, you can walk around in a light trench coat, just wearing three sweaters and two scarves under it. On the contrary, leyering implies temperature-appropriate outerwear, which can be unbuttoned if necessary and remain not in a T-shirt, but in a harmonious image with, say, a jacket and a sweater. So knowing how to match outerwear to temperature is a super important skill for creating a stylish closet.

That's what we're going to do today: see what clothes should be worn on different days - and you won't get cold or overheated in the 60 degree weather.

Knitted vest with shirt
A knitted vest paired with a shirt is a timeless combination, but this fall, both pieces should be a couple of sizes larger for an effortlessly chic look. The structured lines of the classic shirt, contrasted with a relaxed, oversized fit, create a balanced and versatile outfit that combines elegance with comfort. This top combination can be styled with almost anything—straight-leg jeans or wide-wale corduroy trousers work especially well, adding texture and depth to the look. During the day, this ensemble is substantial enough to wear without outerwear, letting you stay warm yet stylish. But as the evening chill sets in, it’s best to layer on a coat or bomber jacket for added warmth.

You can also play around with different textures and colors—try a vest in earthy tones like deep greens or warm browns, which are perfect for the season, or go for a classic neutral like cream or gray for more flexibility. Complete the look with boots or loafers to give it a polished touch that’s still cozy and casual, perfect for any fall outing, whether it's a coffee date, a casual workday, or a weekend stroll.

Denim jacket + hoodie
Many people like the combination of total white (actually cream and ecru) and an oversized denim jacket. I feel a bit like a character from the TV show Friends in this look. Just in case we warn you, it's better to wear a t-shirt under the hoodie, or even a long sleeve or even a thin turtleneck. After all, it's not May yet:)

A look with a trench coat
A simple, perhaps even classic, yet undeniably stylish combination is a lightweight sweater, light-wash jeans, and a trench coat. The coat can be left open for a relaxed look or cinched at the waist with the belt to highlight your silhouette. This outfit is highly versatile, pairing well with almost any footwear—from casual sneakers to elegant heels, depending on the occasion and desired style. To look a more laid-back twist, swap the sweater for a cozy hoodie, adding an element of effortless cool.

You can also experiment with sweater colors, like soft neutrals or autumn tones, to give the ensemble seasonal warmth. Accessories, such as a sleek crossbody bag or a classic watch, can add subtle elegance without overpowering the simplicity of the outfit. This understated yet refined combo works perfectly for various occasions, from casual outings to brunch dates, making it a go-to look for fall.

Trench coat + shirt + T-shirt
Another option for a relaxed casual look is with a trench coat and an oversize shirt. I really like to combine it all with the current straight floor-length jeans. You get, of course, a lot of volume at once, but you can tie a belt if you want. Besides, I use a more fitted T-shirt for this look and add a structured backpack.

Biker jacket + sweater
This is an option for slightly cooler weather. But not so cool that you have to reach for a coat. I really like to combine the biker jacket with a voluminous sweater - it turns out cozy and cool at the same time. Here again, wide jeans are involved - it's really nice to wear them in spring.

Biker jacket + hoodie
Again biker jacket, but this time with a hoodie. We'll say that we recommend wearing at least a T-shirt under it. People like to combine it all with strict pants (preferably with arrows) and sneakers. We all like this modern contrast between classic and sporty things. Images of this plan - you can say, my uniform for the transition period. We highly recommend you try it.

Leather bomber jacket
The leather bomber jacket is the standout outerwear piece of the season and can be paired with almost any outfit. For a casual everyday look, style it with loose-fit jeans and a classic white T-shirt. You can layer a hoodie or a cozy cotton sweatshirt over the T-shirt for extra warmth and a laid-back vibe. To complete the look, add a stylish baseball cap and sturdy leather boots for a touch of ruggedness.

This outfit strikes a balance between comfort and style, making it perfect for city walks, casual meet-ups, or weekend outings. You could also try pairing the bomber with joggers for an athleisure twist, or dress it up with tailored trousers for a refined, modern edge. When it comes to colors, a classic black or dark brown bomber offers timeless versatility, but don’t shy away from seasonal hues like olive green or navy. With its structured silhouette and classic appeal, the leather bomber effortlessly elevates any ensemble, making it a must-have piece for the cooler months.

The classic midi skirt, which you wore in summer with open tops and bodysuits with various cuts, will come in handy in the fall no less. Just complement it with a voluminous warm sweater and your favorite shoes - loafers, ballet flats, or Mary-Jane shoes. When it gets really cold outside, replace your shoes with boots and throw a coat over your sweater.

An elegant solution will be a classic suit with a mini-skirt. If in early September we still wore them with ballet flats and tops, in cooler weather you should combine the suit with a basic sweater made of wool or cashmere, black tights, and comfortable shoes with thick soles or stable heels.

Scarves and stoles
Scarves and stoles are a great way to add colorful and fashionable accents to your look in 60 degree weather. They can be made of different materials such as wool, cotton, silk, and others. Scarves can be worn as neckbands, and headbands or they can be used as stoles to create an extra layer of warmth. It is important to choose scarves with interesting patterns, colors, and textures to make them a bright accent to your look.
